History

On February 7, 2001, Centennial Hall combined unincorporated areas such as Castle Wood and South Glen, which were originally designated as the Population Census Area, into the city. The municipal enforcement was approved by a referendum held in the area on September 12, 2000, and at the same time, a sentennial was selected as the official name of the city. Seventy-seven percent in favor of the municipal election, and the first city to have more than 100,000 cities in American history. The main reason for choosing the city system was that Greenwood Village City tried to merge the surrounding unincorporated areas in order to improve the tax revenue base in the corridor of Interstate Expressway Route 25. Taxes obtained from projects in the unincorporated area of Arapaho County supported most of the projects of the county, such as road construction. Many lawsuits were also filed to put priority on the right to consolidate the local governments.

The city was formed into a municipality by promising to keep its tax rate of 1%. One of the movements against the privatization of local bodies was to demand that the consumption tax rate of the unincorporated area be maintained at 3.8%. According to the city's website, the city's current tax rate is 2.5 times that of its promise, or 2.5%.

Since the city is just created, many residents of the Denver Aurora Bloomfield metropolitan area do not recognize the area under the name of Centennial. This was because the postal code of the place where the city of Centennial was originally allocated to Aurora, Inglewood and Littleton. For this reason, postal addresses in the city often start with Aurora, Inglewood and Littleton as city names. The confusion is caused by the fact that Centennial and Inglewood are not even on the border, and some parts of the city are surrounded by Aurora City, etc.

The Centennial City recently held a Council of Autonomous City Charter and adopted a new city charter. The new charter was approved in a referendum on June 10, 2008, two to one.

The former Alapaho County Airport, Centennial Airport, is adjacent to the city but is located within the unincorporated area of Alapaho County. The airport was named by the City of Centennial, because it was more than 30 years ago that the airport adopted this name.

geography

The Sentinel was located at 39 degrees 35 minutes 47 seconds north latitude and 104 degrees 50 minutes 38 seconds west longitude/39.59639 degrees north latitude and 104.84389 degrees west longitude/ 39.59639 degrees west longitude; -104.84389. The total area of the city area is 27.9 square miles (72.0 km 2). It is almost divided by Inter-State Expressway Route 25, and the center of business and entertainment is on the west side of the road. The city borders are very complicated, and there is a problem in the division of electoral districts. The eastern part of Foxfield Town, a part of Aurora City, and the unincorporated area of the city, and the checkerboard distorted on the map, are especially seen in the eastern part of the city, where there are an overwhelming majority of houses.

There are many hills, canyons and valleys in the city, and the undeveloped areas such as the Dry Creek Dam, the Deco Bend Park and the Highline Canal usually have sidewalks for recreation. This area is full of wildlife, and reflects the reality of the Colorado Front Mountains ecosystem in Chile. In recent years, there are many living bodies of koyote, and they are educating their residents about how to prevent koyote from feeding their pets for home use.
